WHY GET AN ANNUAL EXAM?
  • Abilene Physical Therapy has taken the initiative to create a musculoskeletal exam for all ages that takes a preventative approach to your health – our goal is to prevent the smaller issues from becoming BIG issues down the road!
  • To Prevent Costly Medical Conditions
  • Musculoskeletal conditions are the #1 reason people visit their physicians, and they affect nearly half of Americans over the age of 18.
  • As we age normal physiological changes will take place like a decrease in muscle mass and nerve function as well as joint degeneration leading to a decrease in your balance, strength, power and your overall ability to move.
  • To keep you “Moving Well” so that you can continue to do the activities you love!

WHAT TO EXPECT FROM AN ANNUAL PHYSICAL THERAPY EXAM

The Annual PT Exam is a unique opportunity to assess your overall physical health and determine areas for improvement.  The 1-hour exam includes assessment of (but not limited to) the following:  Your current Health Behaviors, Pain Areas, Posture, Flexibility, Strength, Cardiovascular Function and Body Composition.

Your therapist will review the exam findings with you, answer your questions and assist you in initiating an Action Plan. The Action Plan is an individualized plan to help you attain your specific wellness goals.

WHO SHOULD GET AN ANNUAL EXAM?

People of all ages, athletic abilities and limitations would benefit from a one-on-one Annual Physical Therapy Exam.

Example:   66 year old grandmother comes in for annual exam.  She has been healthy and active with no major issues but the normal aches and                              pains of aging.  During the exam, her PT identifies a few areas of stiffness and weakness.  Her PT will educate her in an exercise plan to prevent                                 these movement problems from affecting the activities she enjoys –like gardening, walking and playing with grandkids.  SHE IS ABLE TO MEET HER                           GOAL OF STAYING HEALTHY AND ACTIVE!

Example:  A 35 year old runner comes in for an annual exam.  Continues to run, do light weight lifting, and takes care of his body.  During the                                    exam, his PT finds a few issues with his running gait and form that, if left unaddressed, could lead to multiple injuries that will hinder his running                              program.  His PT helps correct his running form and educates him in proper warm-up and stretching program.  HE IS ABLE TO MEET HIS GOAL OF A                       CONSISTENT RUNNING PROGRAM AND AVOID INJURY!
