Pregnancy/Postpartum
There are many changes that can occur during pregnancy and that can continue postpartum. Joint mobility, changes in posture, weakness and swelling can all cause pain. Prolonged labor, caesarean section, and large episiotomies can also cause symptoms such as pain or weakness of the pelvic floor and musculature. All these conditions can be treated by a Physical Therapist. Pelvic Floor Rehabilitation Like all the muscles of the body, pelvic floor muscles can weaken or spasm. They can be injured from surgery, prolonged or complicated labor/delivery, or other form of trauma. Due to the close proximity and functions of the pelvic floor muscles, bladder symptoms are usually present. Evaluation and treatment includes the identification of impairments causing your symptoms, assessment and correction of pelvic floor muscular imbalances, daily activity modifications and /or pain management techniques. |
