ASTYM (A-stim) is a manual therapy treatment using a specific set of hand-held tools. The name is an acronym and stands for Augmented Soft Tissue Mobilization. ASTYM tools are used to treat injuries to muscles, tendons and additional soft tissues that has caused lack of mobility or flexibility of the tissue. It is also effective in the reduction of scar tissue. Abilene Physical Therapy has multiple therapists that are certified in the use of ASTYM.

IASTM stands for Instrument Assisted Soft Tissue Mobilization.  Similar to ASTYM, IASTM involves the use of hand-held tools. IASTM tools may be used to treat injured soft tissues for the same conditions as ASTYM noted above.
